Alexandria / Egypt / In 332 BC, Alexander the Great founded a city that became the center of the Egyptian world for many centuries and one of the most important trade hubs in the region. Today's Alexandria, nicknamed the Pearl of the Mediterranean, offers a unique combination of historical monuments, interesting museums, beautiful beaches, and renowned cuisine. The preserved remains of the ancient acropolis, the Roman theater, and the mysterious underground catacombs remind us of the city's glorious past. Extensive collections of ancient artifacts and a maritime museum housed in a medieval fortress underscore its cultural significance. The coastal promenade and adjacent beaches, also associated with events of World War II, are among the other prominent features of this destination, which is also a natural starting point for visiting the pyramids in Giza.
