The most interesting from the history of Lemesos:
Lemesos developed in the shadow of the nearby ancient Kourion, one of the most important cities of ancient Cyprus. It entered European history in 1191 when English King Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre here, turning the city into a crusader center. The medieval castle associated with this event has become a symbol of Lemesos and today hosts a medieval museum. In the following centuries, Venetians, Ottomans, and British took turns here, whose rule gave the city the appearance of a cosmopolitan port with a rich historical heritage.
