Vienna

Vienna / Austria

Vienna is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Austria with approximately two million inhabitants. It is also considered the cultural, economic, and political center of Austria. Additionally, it ranks as the fifth largest city in terms of population in the European Union and the largest of all cities on the Danube River.

Due to its exceptionally rich musical tradition, Vienna is known as the "city of music". Many famous composers and artists, especially from the classical and romantic periods, such as Ludwig van Beethoven and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, considered Vienna their home.

The city's landmarks include the Gothic St. Stephen's Cathedral, which has been the seat of Vienna's bishops and later archbishops since 1469, the Hofburg Palace complex, which has been the residence of the Austrian president, the national library, and several museums since 1945, as well as the Ringstrasse with the state opera, parliament, and town hall. Not to mention, perhaps the most beautiful palace complex in Vienna, the Belvedere, the Schönbrunn Palace, which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, or the Prater park, where visitors can find a large amusement park with a Ferris wheel, sports stadiums, and a football museum.
