The most interesting from the history of Civitavecchia:
The history of Civitavecchia dates back to the early 2nd century when Emperor Trajan built a significant Roman port known as Centumcellae. Thanks to its strategic location, it quickly became an important commercial and military center of the Roman Empire, and its significance persisted even after the fall of ancient Rome. In the Middle Ages and Renaissance, Civitavecchia was an important port of the Papal State. One of the city's most significant landmarks is the fortress Forte Michelangelo, whose construction began in the early 16th century and was also designed by Michelangelo Buonarroti. The fortress remains one of the city's most prominent symbols.
Today, Civitavecchia is one of the busiest passenger ports in Europe, handling millions of travelers annually. Yet, it retains its historical character and represents an interesting blend of ancient traditions, maritime history, and modern tourism.
