Baltra (Galápagos Islands) / Ecuador (embarkation) / In the middle of the Galapagos Islands lies the small flat island of Baltra. During World War II, it served as an American airbase, and today the island with the largest airport in the Galapagos is the gateway to the beautiful archipelago. Keep your eyes open, and you might see Galapagos iguanas crossing the road. Head to the neighboring island of Mosquera and admire one of the largest colonies of sea lions. Take a walk on the 2-kilometer trek on North Seymour Island and observe marine iguanas and countless bird species. Visit Black Turtle Cove on Santa Cruz Island, a place where giant tortoises breed, and don't miss snorkeling or diving at Gordon Rocks.

Punta Pitt (Galápagos Islands) / Ecuador / The northeastern tip of the Galápagos island of San Cristóbal is a destination that birdwatching enthusiasts have long dreamed of. Here, several species of seabirds nest in one place, where an abundance of food allows them to live side by side without fighting for a prime location. Step into it and embark on a 1.5-kilometer-long hiking trek, and at the end, reward yourself with the sight of three species of boobies and two species of frigatebirds. Once you've had your fill of these birds, turn your gaze to the ocean: the views from the lava rock cliff will take your breath away.

Puerto Baquerizo (Galápagos Islands) / Ecuador / In the mid-19th century, Puerto Baquerizo Moreno was founded on the southwestern coast of San Cristóbal Island, the oldest settlement and the capital of the Galápagos Islands. Delve into the mysteries of the origin and unique nature of the Galápagos National Park at the Museum of Natural History. Observe majestic sea lions on the city beach, and during a trek through the La Galapaguera de Cerro Colorado area, see the Galápagos tortoises. Go snorkeling and diving on Lobos Island, climb the highest mountain on the island, Cerro San Joaquin, and to the crater lake Laguna el Junco, and enjoy the stunning views. Replenish lost energy with one of the local specialties: "viche," a creamy soup with vegetables and fish, or "arroz marinero," rice with seafood.

Bahia Post Office (Galápagos Islands) / Ecuador / On the northern coast of the Galapagos island of Floriana lies Post Office Bay with a wooden barrel that has served its purpose since the 18th century. Letters without stamps are delivered here to recipients by tourists themselves. Send a postcard home in a truly unconventional way. Take a boat ride through the mangrove bay and enjoy breathtaking views of the bay from Baron's lookout. On Cormorant Point beach, watch the sea lions and then take a walk to the lagoon, which is home to pink flamingos. Don't miss snorkeling or diving at Devil's Crown, an extinct underwater volcano, and swim with schools of tropical fish, green sea turtles, and sharks.

Cormorant Point (Galápagos Islands) / Ecuador / In the northern tip of Floreana Island lies the beautiful area of Cormorant Point. The island, located in the southern part of the Galápagos archipelago, boasts an 18th-century "post office," the status of the first capital of the Galápagos, and stunning nature that attracts tourists from all over the world today. Visit two different beaches – a green-tinted sandy beach and a beach made of crushed corals, chosen by rare green sea turtles for nesting. In the nearby freshwater lagoon, admire the beautiful flamingos and herons, and beneath the sea surface, observe sharks, rays, and countless species of marine fish. Finally, head out to snorkel at the Devil's Crown, a popular diving spot.

Elizabeth Bay (Galápagos Islands) / Ecuador / On the western coast of the largest Galapagos island, Isabela, lies Elisabeth Bay. Set off among the mangrove forests aboard a local "panga" boat and admire their rare inhabitants – rays, whitetip sharks, or endangered green sea turtles. Stop by the group of rocky islets Marielas, which, thanks to the cooler waters of the island's western coast, are home to one of the largest colonies of Galapagos penguins. Observe herons and pelicans, and then rent a kayak to get literally within arm's reach of the unique nature.
